Yongary (a.k.a. Yonggary) is a prehistoric reptilian daikaiju. Following his screen debut in the 1967 South Korean film Yongary: Monster from the Deep, Yongary would also be featured in the 1999 remake Yonggary, produced by Zero Nine Entertainment. He would also return in 2000's 2001 Yonggary, a heavily re-edited version of the 1999 film released stateside as Reptilian. Although he isn't evil by intention, he is still an antagonist.
Biology[]
Yongary is a fire-breathing bipedal giant monster, somewhat similar to Godzilla. He has a horn in his head reminiscent of a Ceratosaurus', and can release some kind of energy beam from it. His diet consists of oil and oil-derived compounds such as gasoline. Once awakened from hibernation and released from her subterranean domains by an earthquake, he proceeds to attack oil refineries in order to feed. His greatest weakness is ammonia, which is lethal to his metabolism.
History[]
The original Yongary was awakened by an earthquake triggered by atomic bomb tests in the distant Middle East. He went on a rampage and attacked Seoul, but was successfully killed by an ammonia-based substance dumped over him by the military.
Remake[]
In 1999, a series of earthquakes in the Ural Mountains caused much damage throughout the land. The U.S. Government sent their best men to deal with the incident, including archaeoligist Dr. David "Dave" Campbell. The creature made his way to Los Angeles, where he went on a rampage. The United States Army arrived on the scene, but after he made his appearance. Much like Zilla, Yonggary had to be lured out into an open area. General Murdock ordered his men to attack, but Yonggary didn't want to attack. Yonggary soon had to fight against Cykor and was victorious.
