The Whos are a microscopic civilization of humanoid beings which inhabit the city of Whoville, located within a dust speck (or a snowflake, according to the Grinch movie). They are known to enthusiastically celebrate Christmas around winter time, and have mostly the same holiday traditions as humans, except for a few details (like replacing human meals with Who meals such as whodding and roast-beast). The Grinch, which lives north of Whoville, is similar to them except for being more hairy and harboring a deep hatred for Christmas.
In their first appearance in Horton Hears a Who, the Whos have also made contact with a cheerful elephant named Horton, who was surprised to find out that the tiny dust speck was inhabited.
