Venomoth is a Bug/Poison-type Pokémon species. Its juvenile stage is known as Venonat.

Biology[]

Venomoth is a large, nocturnal moth-like Pokémon. Its wings are covered in toxic scales which can either poison an opponent or induce paralysis. Its body is greyish-lilac in color, although its shiny variant is blue. It's most commonly found in forested areas. While Venonat is known for its large compound eyes, Venomoth's eyes are no longer compound, but are still very large and round.

Its overall anatomy is largely similar to that of a real insect, with the most perceptible difference being that it has three horn-like projections on its head rather than antennae (although its juvenile stage does have antennae). Its diet consists of smaller insects which are attracted by light, as is Venomoth itself while in search of its prey.

Venonat[]

Venonat

Like its adult counterpart, Venonat is a nocturnal creature and feeds on smaller insects. It is, however, a wingless biped with only four limbs: a pair of short legs ending in two digits, and even shorter arms ending in three. Its round-shaped body is hidden beneath a layer of poisonous purple fur. It also possesses huge compound eyes, white antennae and a pair of short pincer-like mandibles. The shiny variant differs in that its eyes are blue, rather than red. During the day, Venonat sleeps inside holes in trees. Like Venomoth, it's also attracted towards light in search of its prey.

Curiously, it has been noted that Venonat's eyes act like a radar, allowing it to see in the dark and detect even minuscule prey. This might be just an analogy, as it seems more likely that it would use infrared or even sonar-based echolocation rather than actual radar (which would involve radio waves), although it might still be meant to be taken as literal. It's also stated that its eyes can shoot powerful beams.

Notes[]

  • In spite of what their names suggest, these Pokémon don't appear to be venomous, but simply poisonous.
