Sirens are a species of highly advanced fish or fish-like predators which were known to inhabit the ocean shores during the Pleistocenic ice ages. Their singing enables them to hypnotize prey, causing the Siren to assume a illusory appearance to lure the prey towards them. They will often assume the form of a highly attractive mate of whatever species their prey belongs, but may also assume the form of a desired item instead, for instance: an acorn in order to lure a Sabertoothed Squirrel.

AnatomyEdit

Their actual appearance has features of both fish and reptiles. They have blue skin, with scales covering most of their body and a plated abdomen. Their gills strongly suggest that they are fish, and the mouth is also fish-like and contains numerous needle-shaped teeth. Their eyes are large, spherical, and located on the top of their heads, similar to a mudskipper. The head also contains a dorsal fin and another pair of small fins that look like the pectoral fins of most fish. There is another dorsal fin running on the back of the body, as well as a caudal fin on the tail, and a pair of pelvic fins. Most notably, they also have a pair of strong arms - or, if they aren't arms, extremely developed fins then - which terminate in four-fingered clawed hands.

HabitsEdit

The Sirens appear to live in groups. Each chooses a target and tries to lure it individually, but overall they tend to work together, and if the illusion fails they might chase down the prey together. Like seals or mudskippers, they can move out of the water, and will often appear on rock outcroppings to cast their lyrical spell on unsuspecting sailors. An easy way to protect oneself against the Sirens is to cover one's ears, as this breaks down the illusion and allows one to attempt to escape from them.

NotesEdit

  • It isn't known if this species is still alive today. All that is known is that they existed during the ice ages.
