Shrek is the main protagonist of the film series and the book of the same name.

Overview

Shrek is a large green skinned ogre with a Scottish accent; although his background is left as a mystery in the films, it is revealed in the book and its musical adaptation that Shrek was forced to leave from his parents at his 7th birthday since it is part of the ogre culture. Shrek lives in his comfortable life in the swamp scaring off the humans who entered his territory; despite this, he wants peace and quit in his home and would do anything whoever sets foot in his swamp. Right after his marriage with Princess Fiona, he seemed to tone down his behavior since most of the people don't find him frightening; which this makes him unhappy that they view him as a friendly giant.

Notes

  • During the production of the film, Shrek was originally gonna be voiced by actor and comedian Chris Farley, but passed away.
  • In the original draft, Shrek was originally gonna be a teenage ogre who wants to be nice towards the humans and dreams of becoming a knight
  • During the production of the film, Mike Myers originally recorded all of the character's lines with his normal voice until he wants to re-record the lines using his infamous Scottish accent like he did in So I Married an Axe Murderer and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
