Shovelmouths, a.k.a. Hippophants, are a fictional extinct species of proboscideans which lived in the latest pleistocenic ice age, circa 20 thousand years ago.
Biology[]
They are large, grey-skinned hairless quadrupeds with three-toed feet and small ears. Like their name indicates, they possess long, shovel-shaped mandibles. They seem to live in small family units.

- They're never named onscreen. The name "Shovelmouth" comes from the end credits of the films, whereas "Hippophant" is the name used in the game Ice Age Village.
- This species greatly resembles, and is probably meant to represent (or at least inspired by) the real life members of the Amebelodontidae family of prehistoric proboscideans which inhabited Eurasia, Africa and North America during the Miocene and Pliocene epochs. These were already extinct in the Pleistocene, in which the Ice Age movies take place.
