The Pfrit (Aquambulus hirsutus) is a tiny mammal capable of moving on the surface of still water without sinking. It's a member of the shrew lineage and inhabits the northern wetlands of Earth circa 50 million years in the future.
With a body length of less than five centimeters (not including its tail), this delicate creature is one of the smallest of mammals. Its feet and tail possess fine, water-repellent hair, which along with the creature's light weight, allows it to skate on the water surface, much like a pond skater bug.
The Pfrit also has a long, tubular hairless snout and feeds mostly on mosquito larvae. It locates them under the water surface and pierces them with the minuscule teeth at the tip of its snout in order to suck their insides.
