Great Spiders are an oversized, sapient races of arachnids from Middle Earth.
Overview[]
They appeared to be like ordinary spiders, only except much larger and are one of the evil races of Middle Earth. Ungoliant was known as the leader of the great spiders. Whenever the spiders speak, they communicate in their own language which describes of being chittering-like; However, whoever puts a ring on his/her finger, an individual would understand what the spiders are speaking in Westron.

- They were inspired by Tolkien's arachnophobia including one that bit him when he was a child growing up in South Africa, which his fear would happened to his future son.
- One of the inspirations for the design of the spiders of Mirkwood were from camel spiders.[1]
