“ | What pass for fauna in the Hatter's Domain resemble winged cross bow bolts. They nest in the now wrecked machinery, of which they're very protective. They've become fractious when disturbed, and for dumb "creatures" they're annoyingly resourceful. |

Bolterflies are dragonfly- and bolt-like mechanical fauna found within the Hatter's Domain of Wonderland. Normally nesting in active machinery, they have had to adapt to nesting in rat nest-looking scraps now that the Hatter's land has begun to fall into disrepair. They are extremely territorial of their nests, emerging in pairs to hunt down trespassers. Should they get close enough to one they will latch onto them and soon after injure their target unless they can be shaken off. Alice was known to shake them off using a dodge that separated her into a flock of butterflies, although how others may attempt to escape a Bolterfly's grasp is not currently known.
Bolterflies seem to make very good use of space in their nests, and despite the finite size of such objects they appear to emerge with no end in site; however should the nest be crushed all remaining Bolterflies inside also appear to perish as well.
Upon death they make a sound like shattering glass; this is the sound of their glass pane wings breaking with the damage inflicted.
They are likely very closely related to the Nutterflies seen buzzing around the Vale of Tears, and just as likely to be distantly related to Bulbflies if Alice's delusions hold enough similarity to real life. They share similar mannerisms to Samurai Ink Wasps though the two do not appear to be particularly related to one another.
Appearances[]
- Alice: Madness Returns (First appearance)
Notes[]
- Their name appears to be a play on the word "butterfly", even though they are far more dragonfly-like in appearance.
