|Behind the Scenes|
In December 24th, 2009, a sequence of seismic activity took place in the western coast of North America, followed by inexplicable power failures. Fissures opened on the ground and released a number of strange creatures from a previously unknown subterranean realm.
This is an unnamed species of vicious humanoid beasts, with pitch black skin covered in armor plates and quills (the latter probably a sensory organ). They have a long tail equipped with a claw at its tip, which can be used to brutally impale victims. Their heads contain a lipless toothed mouth and a pair of glowing pale-green eyes with no pupils. It is speculated that the creatures generate a kind of electromagnetic field around them, which causes lights to go out whenever they are nearby. Although quite resistant, they can be easily killed if shot or stabbed through the skull. Their blood is red in color, indicating the presence of hemoglobin.
Their natural prey is a species of rat-sized terrestrial crustacean which resembles an oversized tadpole-shrimp, and which also emerged from the fissures opened by the earthquakes.
- The end credits list them as "The Beast", despite the fact that there are several of them. They have been portrayed by Edward Gusts.
